FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A few answers before you step inside.

What is BetaRoom, and how does it work?

BetaRoom is a workspace for running a beta read. Authors organize manuscript Parts, invite their readers, and collect questions, answers, highlights and passage comments in one place.

Does BetaRoom find readers for me?

You bring and choose your own readers. BetaRoom provides the workspace to manage the beta read with them; it does not match authors with readers.

What is the difference between a Room, a Round, and a Part?

Think of a Room as your book’s workspace. Inside it, each Round is a separate beta read—for example, an initial read followed by another after revisions. Parts are the sections readers work through during a Round, whether you share the whole manuscript at once or divide it into smaller sections. One book, one Room. Multiple reads, multiple Rounds.

Can readers download or copy my manuscript?

Readers read inside BetaRoom’s manuscript viewer, which does not offer manuscript downloads or copy-and-paste controls. Each reader’s copy also carries a personalized watermark. These controls do not prevent screenshots or other forms of capture.

Can I write my own questions or use the question bank?

Yes. Create your own questions in Author Studio or choose a starting point from the question bank. Assign questions to Parts so readers answer about the section they have just read.

What does the Reader Portal look like, and where do I start?

Your Reader Portal brings your available Rooms together and shows your next step. Open the Room, complete entry requirements, and use its reading action to open your current available Part.

How do I highlight a passage and leave a comment?

On a desktop computer, select a passage in the manuscript viewer and use the highlight or comment tools. Add a comment to explain your reaction to that passage. You can also share broader feedback through the Part’s questionnaire.

Can I read and answer questions on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Reading and questionnaires are available on mobile devices. Passage highlighting and adding inline comments are desktop features.

Do readers need to pay?

No. Readers use BetaRoom for free. They join a Room through an author’s invitation and complete any entry requirements before reading.

Where do authors and readers sign in?

Use the sign-in link at the top of the website with the email associated with your account. Your available Author Studio and Reader Portal appear after sign-in.
